What is the Sacrament of Confirmation?

FIRST, What it's NOT:
It is not graduation from religion classes.  It is not when young people accept the faith for themselves.  It is not a passage into spiritual adulthood.

THEN, What is it? It is a gift. A gift that can be received at any age. It is one of seven sacramental ways Jesus enters our souls—for a reason. 2,000 years ago, St. Paul describes this sacrament  in his letter to Timothy:

“I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands.  For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.  So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord...but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes form God.  He saved us and called us to a holy life. Take as your norm faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.  Guard this with the help of the holy Spirit that dwells within us."

CHOSEN reminds us-- it is not so much about us choosing God, but that God first chose us for a life in his Son.Teens will come to see how the sacraments, prayer, and discipleship are the keys to a happy life. Chosen challenges and empowers teens to fully embrace a life in Christ. It helps them encounter & build a personal relationship with Christ.

We chose this program to help:  engage, educate, encourage and empower our young people for the mission they've been given through their baptism. The mission that is not done alone in the battle fields of the world but with the amazing and awe-inspiring fire-filled power of the Holy Spirit.
Parents -
the #1 spiritual influence!

In a recent study by the National Study on Youth and Religion (an intensive study of thousands of teens),  the majority of teenagers named their parents as their number one spiritual influence.

Parents show their children, by example what it means to be a disciple of the Lord.    A teens' faith tends to mimic that of mom and dad.  We involve the  parents in this formation process—to give you a shared experience and foundation on which to discuss important faith and life issues

What Parents Can Do:

HOW YOU LIVE:
  1. JOIN US  We will ask you to join us for several parent sessions throughout the year.  Let your support and desire to grow in faith be a witness for our young people.  God has entrusted us with these souls - be a part of giving them deep faith roots - and yourself in the process.
  2. MASS What is the gift Jesus wishes to give you?  His very body & blood, offered to the Father, for your good.  It is the closest you can bring your child to God - this side of Heaven.
  3. RECONCILIATION Because Christ knows we stray from the path and he wants to give us the gift of his healing and strength to get us reoriented towards heaven.

HOW YOU PRAY:
  1. PRAY DAILY  It is easier then you think:  Pick up a free October "Word Among Us" at church this weekend.  Go toguslloyd.com and sign-up for his daily 60 second email reflections.  Go to LoyolaPress and sign-up for daily 3 minute retreat videos.
  2. PRAY WITH YOUR CHILD Use the booklet we gave out -  to read & reflect on the Sunday Gospel with your son/daughter.  What is the Gospel, the Good News?  That God loved us, sent his Son for us, his Son gave his life for us, Jesus shows us the way to the Father and journeys through life by our side.  There is no better news to share with your children.
  3. PRAY FOR YOUR CHILD  Because your prayers are powerful!
