FPU Stories from St. Mary Familiesthe Carey Family
WE’RE DEBT FREE! Thanks to Financial Peace University . In the summer of 2010, Shawn and I decided we were sick and tired of living paycheck to paycheck when we learned about Dave Ramsey. Following his baby steps helped us to have a concrete plan that gave us the momentum we needed to get started and keep going. Our marriage is so much stronger after going through FPU. We discuss our finances on a regular basis and determine our monthly budget together. Our children will grow up knowing the importance of working hard to save the cash for any purchases they want to make, instead of going into debt to get something immediately. FPU has truly changed our life for the better! the Schmidt Family
One of my favorite quotes from FPU is “If you fail to plan, plan to fail.” Financial Peace University is about “debt reduction, relationships and taking control.” It has helped our family on many levels. I didn’t think we had a debt problem. Life was good, so we thought. The most important thing I got out of the 1st class is that I had a BAD case of “Stuffitis – The Worship of “Stuff!” That one word made me rethink our finances and how we handle them; it changed our life! Since FPU, loans have been paid off, we have an emergency fund, and most importantly have established a budget. If we get off track we hop back on our plan. We don't have near as many arguments and our marriage has grown stronger. Financial Peace has taught us how to instill good money habits in our children. We want to teach our children about the mistakes we made. We want them to have patience and save for the things they need. the Ritchie Family
I share our story with you, because truly my husband and I are not in BAD financial shape. But we had so much to learn. We were not being smart with our money. Period. We were living the way the world tells us we should – buying on time, using credit cards to “build” our credit score, and at times trying to “keep up with the Joneses” - we were being controlled by our money, not telling our money how to work for us Working together as a team, David and I decide where our priorities are, the amount of money allocated, using budget envelopes (there’s an app for that!) to keep track of our spending and keep us accountable. It truly has provided us a peace that we have never had before. When the guess work is out, you have made the decisions already, you don’t have the day-to-day squabbles about who spent what and how did you come up with the money? It has brought us closer together as a couple, and that is probably the biggest win from this course. So many of the principles you learn in FPU are best implemented at a younger age, as you have time on your side for avoiding pitfalls and getting a strong early start on investing. But anyone can benefit, at any age. The sound principles presented can help you no matter your age or status. David and I cannot recommend this course enough. Please consider joining a class at St. Mary’s in their next offering of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. |
