"Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.
In all circumstances give thanks,
for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."

When we  give our hearts and minds to another, we give ourselves fully to that relationship. We trust the person with our  fears, joys and sorrows.  The more we “give” of ourselves, the more trusting the relationship becomes.  This is the friendship God desires. It can only come about by spending time with him and giving our lives to him. “Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God.” Catechism of Catholic Church 2559

There are Many Ways to Pray

"Just as there are many ways to be hospitable, there are many ways to pray. When we are serious about prayer and no longer consider it one of the many things people do in their lives but, rather, the basic receptive attitude  out of which all of life can receive new vitality, we will, sooner or later, raise the question:

'What is my way to pray, what is prayer of the heart?' Just as artists search for the style that is most their own, so people who pray search for the prayer of their heart
.

"What is most profound in life, and  therefore most dear to us, always needs to be properly protected as well as  expressed. It, therefore, is not surprising that prayer is often surrounded by carefully prescribed gestures and words, by detailed rituals and elaborate  ceremonies.
"

-Father Henri J.M. Nouwen, "Reaching Out"

The Classroom of Silence

Matthew Kelly, popular Catholic author, shares the following in his book, Rediscover Catholicism: "Our modern world is spinning out of control, and one of the chief contributors to the chaos and confusion of our modern age is noise.  There is so much noise, we can no longer hear the voice of God."

"God is inviting us into the silence and into his presence. In college I started spending ten minutes a day in silent prayer and came to realize that God is only as far away as we place him.  If you take ten minutes a day in silence with God asking him “God, what do you think I should do?” your life will change."

"The two things lacking in most people’s lives are intimacy with God and intimacy with self.  Most people don’t know who they are or why they are here.  Most people feel far from God.  I will make two promises to you.  In the silence, you will find God.  In the silence, you will find yourself.  These will be the two greatest discoveries of your life."
